PURE is melodically inspired by Hindustani classical music, rhythmically inspired by African music and spiritually inspired by the Buddhist caves of Maharashtra. Richard X Bennett uses the traditional platform of the solo piano concert as a way of presenting his soul, creativity and virtuosity. Stripped of extraneous elements, the resulting music is Pure.

Bennett's piano assumes many guises, from the harp sounds of "Make it Rain" and "Shadow/Light" to the thunder of "The Sage of Gowalia Tank" or the other-worldly dreaminess of "The Three Tusks". Pure creates a soundscape suitable for either meditation or the most intense listening.

About the Ragas
"Megh" - music for the monsoon season. In the classical piano tradition, arpeggios evoke raindrops
"Yaman" - an ancient source for endless melodic variation, loosely adapted
"Multani" - a solemn afternoon raga, traditionally developed
"Bhoop" - a simple pentatonic raga used as building blocks for three very different compositions
"Darbari" - the Raga of Kings…hypnotic

About the Artist
This is Richard X Bennett's third Mystica recording, having previously released "Raga & Blues" and "Rhapsody in Yaman”. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
